Here is a Post-Courier article about this tribal conflict:

As many of our supporters would be aware, Kiriwina had just experienced a horrendous death toll due to a tribal conflict. Kiriwina is known for its peace-loving people and nothing like this has happened on Kiriwina in living memory.

This tragic event did not only affect the days around the event, but its ongoing legacy is also the looming starvation of the villagers. This conflict has affected the next year’s food security of all villages involved. Hundreds of innocent victims now look at an immediate future without food.

Some villages have had their crops destroyed, whilst others will not be able to harvest their crops as they have had their labour resources removed from the island while the authorities undertake investigations into the fighting.

At this time of the year, all yam seeds in other villages have been planted, and there will be none available until after the harvest next year.

Again, we would like to pay our respects to the family and friends of the victims.

Caring for Kiriwina needs your support to provide basic food items such as rice, sugar, tinned food, noodles, teabags, flour, and cooking oil.

PLEASE HELP – YOUR DONATION IS VITAL TO SAVE INNOCENT PEOPLE FROM STARVATION

CFK continues to support our clean drinking water project by supplying our plumber with the support required for the upkeep of our 7 water pumps situated across the Island. Attempting to deliver a constant source of clean water to the Kirwina Secondary School students and the main village and 6 other villages. Many more water pumps need to be installed.

News update 22/8/8: Baby Tomakam had an X-ray yesterday and his doctor will determine whether to undergo an operation or not. More updates will be informed as soon as I receive updates from Alotau.

One month old Baby boy Tomakam was born with a growth around his right eye. He was delivered by the Caring for Kiriwina Kavataria village VBA’s.

The parents are desperately in need of financial assistance to take the baby to Alotau Provincial Hospital for further review and tests before an operation is carried out.

The boy’s family needs further financial assistance for medical costs, transport costs and other associated costs.

Video message from Kiriwina Secondary School Principal Mr. Cyril T.

The supply of Kiriwinan Schools with the basic items essential to teaching and learning is ongoing – please help us help them to produce their future teachers, doctors, nurses, and midwives.

The CFK Team :).

In this video the KSS Principal appeals for the donation of scientific calculators, text books, computers and ink cartridges to print the student’s learning materials.

CFK has answered the principal’s urgent pleas and delivered the scientific calculators, text books and printer ink cartridges. We are working on the other items mentioned.

The Digicel network has been down again on Kiriwina for the past few weeks. Once available we were notified that the female and male water pumps both needed parts and repairs. Parts purchased and repairs will soon be made by our wonderful plumber Mr Koega :).

Thank you again to all our sponsors and donors. Without you none of this could happen.
