A 25 year old boy named, Ilai Kauyola Tobitam from Kavataria Village, Trobriand Islands, was bitten by shark on Saturday 28  August 2021, while diving for fish in the waters between the mainland Kiriwina and Muwa Island. The shark bit the boy at his left buttock and between his abdomen and pelvic. The boy was medivac to Port Moresby General Hospital on Monday 30 August 2021 due to loss of blood.

The boy was admitted to the Emergency ward upon arrival and was later re-located to ward 2A awaiting for surgery. Currently, the patient is low in blood and cannot be taken in for surgery.

Yesterday, five people from Trobriand Islands donated blood and if anyone is willing to donate more blood to help the patient to increase his blood to a reasonable level to enable him for admission into surgery.

Any person willing to donate blood can go to Port Moresby General Hospital blood bank section to donate blood. Ilai Kauyola Tobitam is in ward 2A bed 5. Banasi from Silaketa is in the Blood Transmission Division.

Your prayers and thoughts of best wishes for speedy recovery is much appreciated.”

These photos depict the Cultural Show at Kiriwina Secondary School, part of the Milamala Festive Season Celebrations, taken by the CFK In-Country Manager Toks on his recent trip to Kiriwina. The photos show Kiriwina Secondary School students in traditional attire loading their yam house with yams to celebrate a good yam harvest. The yams stored will be used for consumption by the students at a later date.

Food security is a big issue on Kiriwina due to climate change, population increase and land shortages.

To promote food security on Kiriwina, CFK in conjunction with Toks, host the yam competition to enable people to work and maintain their gardens for a good harvest.

Thanks so much to the lovely lady Michelle, who sewed and donated these gorgeous girls dresses.
Both Kiriwinan girls are 6 years old and in elementary school.

Clothes for children such as these are in desperate need.

The Grade 12’s in PNG sat their National Written Expression Examination last Monday using the donated pens from CFK.

We asked the head teacher, Mr Kalu of KSS to convey CFK’s best wishes to all KSS Grade 12 students as well as donation of 2 boxes of pens to be distributed to the Grade 12 students.

Mr Kalu’s has taken these photos of the pens being distributed.

This will put a smile on your dial in lockdown! Just look at those fabulous outfits!

There were 225 gardeners. The two top gardeners harvested and heaped their yams and measured over 5 arm spans. All the 225 gardeners were appreciated for their hard work.

The yam house was filled up showing a good sign of harvest. The yams will be store for future distribution and consumption.

Another COVID Lockdown week… another baby image to add cheer to your week. This week’s Baby has been delivered by the CFK Kavataria Village Birth Attendants :).

We are all feeling very relieved that our in-country manager Toks has made it back after a grueling trip back from Kiriwina, unfortunately, due to the indefinite closure of Losuia airport. The runway again is in disrepair and not fit for aircraft landing and take off, he had to travel to Alotau by boat for two days travelling through extremely rough weather.

Happy you are back safe and sound!

We are presently packaging birthing kits, panadol and pens and pencils to send over asap :).
