Welcome to our new Baby of the Week Section

Each week I will upload a photo of one of our beautiful babies birthed by our fabulous Village Birth Attendants… something to make you smile.

The photos are of the new born babies delivered by Kavataria VBA’s. Photos taken by Melcah Bwaina on her recent visit for CFK to meet with our representatives and on Island and receive updates. All permissions have been received.

Hello baby girl Milan Noah. She is one month and a week old.

Just gorgeous!

Thank you for your wonderful legacy.

Margaret would have wanted all of us to remember that:

“While men seem to be slightly more at risk for life-threatening infections by COVID-19, women’s health is being doubly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Responses to the global crisis are consistently failing to prioritize the needs of women seeking reproductive care and freedom from violence. Many governments and health systems are all too comfortable using the challenge of the pandemic as an excuse to deny women’s rights to control their bodies and life choices. If anything, defending women’s health and rights is even more important during this time of crisis.”

Thanks Hesperian for these inspirational words.

Please donate CLICK HERE and defend women’s rights and continue to support us in our important work.

DFAT have postponed awarding the Round 2 Friendship Grants due to the uncertainty and rapidly changing situation associated with COVID-19. An announcement will be made as soon as possible about the program.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Australian Government for their support of our charity. Their funds have allowed Caring For Kiriwina (CFK) to exceed its targets and deliver results. Increasing the positive outcomes for not only our mothers, girls and children but all Kiriwinans.

Although this global COVID-19 pandemic has put a hold on this funding avenue Kiriwinan’s still need our support. We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm Caring for Kiriwina’s commitment to continuing to supply Birthing and Dignity Kits, and the many other essential health and hygiene items that we need to send to Kiriwina. This help is only made possible through the continued generous support and commitment of our other wonderful volunteers and donors.

CFK’s plumber, Mr Koega, has managed to fix the Boys pump at Kiriwina High School. Now both pumps are now in operation. We are buying more rubbers cups and send to Mr Koega asap.

Kiriwina High School’s CFK Boys’ Water pump
Caring for Kiriwina’s KHS boys Water Pump was dedicated to CFK midwife Shea Caplice for all the countless volunteer hours she has donated to the Caring for Kiriwina VBA program over the past three years.

These women are the glue that keeps the Kiriwinan community together. We love them and are so proud of what they do for their communities and that we are able to support them in our small way. Another five boxes made up of Birthing Kits, Dignity Kits, condoms, with extra soaps and gloves winging are on their way to help them in their good work. Thanks to our sponsors and donors. A great team effort!!!

Kiriwina High School pump was fixed by CFK plumber Koega yesterday and is now working. The boys pump requires rubber cups that we are sourcing these as we write this post…

Video 3 – Appeal for a water pump

My name is Joyce and my husband’s name is Melivala. I am from Buduwelaka village (village situated at end of Trobriand airport runway). Our problem is sourcing good water. We walk long distances to fetch water. In the past a pump was installed (by European Union), however, the pump is no longer functioning and we cannot afford to repair the pump. We have gone five years back facing same problems in the past of sourcing good and clean water for drinking. For this reason my community is in desperate need of good clean water to help the people and children. My appeal now is for a water pump to be installed to help my community. The distance we walk to fetch water is approximately 20 – 30 kilometers. The population is approximately 200 people. I given my consent for my photo and this video to be viewed by viewers. Thank you.
